Making an album from the player

Turn a setlist's playlist into a draft album.

Once a gig or session is split and sounds good in the setlist player, you can turn the playlist into an album in one step, with the takes already attached in player order.

Who can do this: by default the Principal and Core roles. Other members see Add these tracks to an Album in the player's Share box instead.

Get the playlist ready first

The album is built from the audio player as it stands, so tidy it up before you start:

  • Put the songs in album order by dragging them in the player.
  • Skip takes you don't want, like false starts and chatter.
  • Pick the take for songs you played twice. Only the first take of each song (in player order) goes on the album, so move your favourite above the other or skip the one you don't want.
  • Assign a song to every take you want on the album. Takes without a song are left out.
  • Trim count-ins and applause. See Trimming, cutting and splitting takes.

Create the album

  1. In the audio player, click Turn this playlist into an album (it's also linked from the Share box).
  2. The Tracks list shows what will go on the album. Not included lists the takes that won't, and why: "Not assigned to a song", or "Same song already on the album (albums allow one take per song)". Skipped takes and video takes aren't listed at all.
  3. Fill in the album details. Only the Album title is required (it starts as the setlist's name). You can also add a release date, description, credits, Bandcamp/Spotify/Apple Music links, voluntary support, artwork and a header image now, or later on the album page.
  4. Tick I confirm I have the rights to upload and distribute these recordings. and click Create album.

You land on the new album's page with "Album created from the playlist with N tracks."

If no takes have songs assigned yet, Create album stays turned off. Assign songs to the takes in the player, then come back.

After it's created

The album is a draft, visible only to the band. From the album page you can:

  • reorder or remove tracks, or change a track's audio with Select audio
  • share a private preview with View Player
  • publish it when it's ready

See Making albums for all of that.

Limits

Creating an album counts against your band's plan. If you've reached the limit on published albums, you'll be told so with a link to the plans, and you'll need to unpublish an album or upgrade first.
