Editing library songs and charts

Who can change a song's title, artist, key and other details, and how to request a fix.

The song library is shared by everyone on The Band Plan, so a song's details are protected once they're filled in. Anyone signed in can help fill in gaps. Fixing something that's already set goes through the person who added the song, or a moderator.

In this guide, the song's owner is the person who added the song to the library. Moderators and admins can do everything the owner can, and a bit more for charts and links.

A private song can only be edited by people who can see it: its owner and members of bands that have it. Only the owner can make it public.

Who can change what

What Anyone signed in Song's owner and moderators
Title Request a change Change it
Artist Add it if it's blank, otherwise request a change Change it
Key, Duration, BPM, Genre, Sub-genre Fill in if blank, otherwise request a change Change it
Vocalist Fill in if blank Change it
Tags Add them if there are none; after that, suggestions go to a moderator Change them
Charts Edit charts you made; for anyone else's, make your own version Moderators can edit any chart (the song's owner can't, unless they made it)
Links Add links, and delete your own Moderators can delete any link (the song's owner can't, unless they added it)

Where to make changes

  • On the song page: in the song info panel, click Add next to an empty Duration, BPM, Vocalist or Key and it saves straight away. The song's owner and moderators can click a filled-in value to change it.
  • On the Edit page: click Edit in the song page's Details panel for the full form (title, artist, key, duration, BPM, genre, sub-genre and tags). Anything you're not allowed to change shows as plain text.
  • Suggest genre & tags: fills in the genre and tags automatically. If the tags are locked, your suggestion goes to a moderator.

Requesting a change

If something that's already set is wrong, click Request change on the song page (or on the Edit page). Pick the field (Title, Artist, Key, Duration, BPM, Genre or Sub-Genre), enter the correct value, add a reason if it helps, and click Submit Suggestion.

A moderator reviews it and approves or declines it. If it's approved, the song is updated for everyone.

Tip: Want to help review changes? See Becoming a moderator.

Charts

Charts aren't edited by suggestion. If a chart isn't how you play it, make your own version. Improve this chart starts from a copy of an existing chart, and the original stays as it was. See Make your own version.

Band settings are separate

A band can set its own key, notes and preferred chart for a song without changing the library song. See The band song page.
