Views of your song collection

The song list, Practice and Listen views of your collection, what plays, and sharing them.

Your song collection has three views: a song list, a Practice page with charts and a player, and a Listen page that just plays the music. Each one also has a version you can share.

Song list

Click Song Collection in your profile header (or Full list on your profile page). It lists every song with its key, BPM, genre and whether it has a chart.

  • Filter by title, artist, key or genre, or tick Missing charts.
  • Sort by collection order (the order you added them), title, artist, key, BPM or genre, A–Z or Z–A.
  • Print prints the list as it's filtered, with the date and your filters at the top.
  • Listen opens the Listen page. Practice is in your profile header.

Practice

Click Practice in your profile header, or go to /profile/practice. Every song in your collection is on one page, in the order you added them, with its chart on the left and a player on the right. The header shows how many songs have something to play.

  • Charts: each song shows the chart you saved a transpose on. Otherwise it shows the song's default chart, then its chords chart, then any chart it has. Song page opens the song.
  • Play loads a song into the player. Songs with nothing to play say "No media". When a song ends, the next one with something to play starts.
  • The player: skip back or forward 5, 10, 20 or 30 seconds, Mark a spot and Go to mark to loop a tricky part, and slow it down or speed it up from 0.25× to 2×. Hide player gives the charts more room.
  • Instrument: show the chords for a B♭ or E♭ instrument. This is just for this visit.
  • Transpose a chart with − and +. On your own Practice page, it's saved to your collection, the same as on the chart's page.

What plays

Each song plays one thing:

  1. Its best YouTube link: the song's own videos first, then karaoke and backing tracks, with tutorials last. The newest wins among links of the same kind.
  2. If there's no YouTube video, your own newest recording of the song.
  3. Otherwise the song's first audio link.

To change what plays, add a link or a recording on the song's page.

Practice for your collection works like a band's Practice Page, but without sets, preference sets or band-preferred media.

Listen

Click Listen on your profile page or the Song Collection page, or go to /profile/listen. It's the same playlist as Practice without the charts: a player and a list of your songs.

  • Click a song to play it. The ◀◀ and ▶▶ buttons skip to the previous or next song with something to play, and it moves on by itself when a song ends.
  • Each song shows a YouTube or music-note icon for what will play. Songs with nothing to play are greyed out.

Share your views

You can let other people see your list, Practice and Listen pages, without an account. Set this up under Share on your profile page:

  • Show on public profile puts List, Practice and Listen buttons on your public musician page, at /musicians/your-name/songs, /songs/practice and /songs/listen. Turning it on also makes your profile public.
  • Semi-private link makes links to the three views that aren't listed anywhere. Only people you send them to can open them. New link replaces it and Revoke turns it off, so old links stop working.

The Share button on your own Practice and Listen pages copies the matching link: the public one if your profile and song list are public, otherwise your semi-private link.

People viewing your shared pages can filter, sort and print the list, practice and listen, and transpose on their own device. They can't change anything. Your private songs aren't shown to them, and they don't hear your own recordings, unless you've used Add to song to put a recording on the song for everyone.
