Your song collection

Songs you keep personally, separate from any band: adding, browsing, editing, private songs and removing.

Your Song Collection is the list of songs you keep for yourself: songs you're learning, songs you play solo, songs you want to bring to a band one day. It belongs to you, not to any band, and you don't need a band to use it.

Songs in your collection are songs from the shared library. Adding one doesn't make a copy; it bookmarks the song for you. That means the song's details, charts and links are shared with everyone who uses that song, while your own recordings stay private to you.

Want songs in a set order? Collections aren't ordered. Create or join a band to arrange songs into setlists.

Add songs

From your profile page or the bottom of the Song Collection page, under Add songs to your collection:

  • Add a Song: enter a title (everything else is optional), and optionally a chart and a link. If the song is already in the library, you're asked whether to use that one or create a new song. After saving, you land on the song's page.
  • Add a List: paste or type titles, one per line, with an optional artist after a comma. You can also scan a photo of a list. You review the matches before anything is added.
  • Import Google Docs: one doc with many songs, or one doc per song. Each becomes a chart.
  • Pick from Library: browse the library and click any song card to add it or take it out again. Click Done when you're finished.

The list and Google Doc imports work the same way as for bands; see Adding songs and Google Doc formatting for the details.

You can also add songs as you browse:

  • On any song or chart page, click Add to my collection. Once it's in, the button changes to "In your collection" with Remove next to it.
  • Turning an idea into a song adds it to your collection.
  • Songs you saved as a guest before signing up are added when you create your account (see Collecting songs before you register).

The Song Collection page

Click Song Collection in your profile header to see every song in one list, with key, BPM, genre and whether it has a chart.

  • Filter by title, artist, key or genre, or tick Missing charts to find songs that still need one.
  • Sort by collection order (the order you added them), title, artist, key, BPM or genre.
  • Print prints the list as filtered, with the date and filters at the top.
  • Listen plays through your collection (see Views of your song collection).
  • Jump to song opens any song quickly.
  • Export book PDF builds a PDF song book with one page per chart. It can take a minute for a big collection; it downloads when it's ready.
  • Record a Song: Choose a song to record a take, or open My Song Recordings.

Sharing your collection (a public list, a private link, or copying it as text) is under Share on your profile page; see Your profile page.

A song in your collection

Click a song to open its page. From here you can:

  • Fill in details: click Add next to an empty Key, BPM, Duration or Vocalist to fill it in. Edit in the Details panel opens the full form.
  • Charts: open a chart, or click New chart to write one, upload a PDF or bring in a Google Doc.
  • Links: add a YouTube video, a Spotify track, a tab, a backing track and so on, with Add link. View plays or shows it on the page.
  • Record Your Version: record or import your own take. Your recordings are private; see Recording songs in your profile.
  • Transpose a chart with the − and + buttons. Your transpose is saved to your collection along with the chart you set it on, and your Practice page shows that chart. Transposing a different chart of the song moves your saved transpose to it.
  • Add to my bands puts the song in a band's repertoire (see Sharing songs with a band).

Who can change what

Because the song is shared, there are limits:

  • Anyone can fill in a detail that's still blank, like a missing key or BPM.
  • The person who added the song (and moderators) can change details that are already filled in, and only they can change the title.
  • Charts can be edited by whoever created them.
  • Charts and links you add are visible to everyone who uses the song.

Spotted something wrong? Click Request change to suggest a fix. See Editing library songs and charts.

Private songs

On a Pro or Premium plan, tick Make this song private when you add a song. Private songs are hidden from the library; only you (and members of bands that have the song) can see them. A lock icon marks them in your collection. To make one public later, open Edit and tick Make this song public.

Remove a song

Click the × on a song card on your profile page, or Remove on the song's page. The song only leaves your collection: it stays in the library, and your recordings of it are kept under My Song Recordings. A saved transpose for it is forgotten.
