Your profile

Your profile page

A tour of your profile: the header, your public page switch, bands, songs, ideas, sharing and account settings.

Your profile is your own space on The Band Plan, separate from any band. It holds your songs, ideas, recordings, saved lessons and photos, plus the settings for your public musician page and your account. Open it with My Profile in the top menu, or go to /profile.

The header

The header at the top of every profile page shows your photo, your name, how many songs, recordings and ideas you have, and whether your profile is Public or Private. Its buttons take you anywhere in your profile:

  • Home: back to your Home page
  • Song Collection: every song you keep personally (see Your song collection)
  • Practice: practice your collection with charts and a player (see Practice Page)
  • My Ideas: your idea sessions (see Ideas and sessions)
  • My Woodshed: lessons and links you've saved
  • Media: your photos and videos
  • Record Idea (red): starts recording a new idea straight away in today's session

Profile panel

The left-hand panel shows your photo, instruments, location and website, and lets you manage your profile:

  • Public profile switch: turn it on to share your musician page at thebandplan.com/musicians/your-name. Edit URL changes the address. When it's public, View Public Profile opens the page. See Your public musician page.
  • Edit Profile: your username, bio, instruments, location, website, public URL, your act name, My Favorite Band, whether you're open to opportunities, and newsletter emails.
  • Music identity: link yourself to the artist names your songs are credited to (see Musician identity).
  • Change password, or Set a password if you signed up with Google or Facebook.

My Bands

Every band you belong to, with your instrument and your role (Owner, or a role like Core or Member). Your favorite band is starred. If you can edit a band and its press kit isn't finished, a small count (like 5/8) shows how far along it is. Click a band to open it, or Create Another Band to start a new one.

No bands yet? Create a Band, even if it's just you, to organize songs into setlists, record rehearsals and build a press kit. Nothing is public until you choose. See Creating a band.

About Me and Photos

About Me shows your bio. Photos shows your photos, with your Primary one marked; it's the one used as your avatar. Click Media library to upload or manage photos and videos.

Song Collection

A grid of the songs you keep personally. Each card shows the key, length, and icons for links, recordings and charts. Search by title or artist, or filter by style. Click a song to open it, or the × to remove it from your collection.

  • Full list, Practice and Listen open your whole collection in those views (see Views of your song collection). They and Share appear once you have at least one song.
  • Record (red) lets you pick a song from your collection and record a take of it (see Recording songs in your profile).
  • Share gives you three ways to share your songs:
    • Show on public profile adds the list, practice and listen views to your public musician page. Turning this on also makes your profile public.
    • Semi-private link: Create link makes a link to your list, practice and listen views that isn't listed anywhere. Copy any of the three, make a New link, or Revoke it so old links stop working.
    • Copy list as text copies a numbered list of titles, artists and keys, in the order you added them (the same numbering as Practice).

To arrange songs into setlists in a set order, create or join a band.

My Ideas

Your latest three idea sessions, with the option to name each session right there. Record Idea starts a new take; Full list or View all opens all your sessions. See Ideas and sessions.

My Woodshed

Your 6 most recent lessons saved from the Woodshed. Full list shows them all; Browse Woodshed finds more. See My Woodshed.

Add songs to your collection

At the bottom, pick a way to grow your collection:

  • Add a Song: add one song by name, or create one with chords and lyrics.
  • Add a List: paste or type a list of songs.
  • Import Google Docs: one doc with many songs, or one link per song. Each becomes a chart.
  • Pick from Library: browse the library and add songs.

See Your song collection.

Account

Under the bands panel:

  • Recording Management: all your recordings and idea files in one place, with the space they use (see Storage).
  • Subscription: your plan.
  • Delete my account: permanently removes your profile, song collection, recordings, ideas, photos and band memberships. Songs, setlists and other band content you created stay with the band but are no longer credited to you. If you're the only owner of a band, transfer it or delete it first. Type DELETE to confirm. This can't be undone.
