Your first steps

Quick start

The short path from a new account to a working setlist.

Five steps from a new account to playing a gig from Music Stand.

1. Create your band

Go to My Bands → Create band (or Create your first band on your home page), enter a name and click Create band. Solo? Create a band of one. See Creating a band.

2. Add songs

On the band page, click Add New Song for one song, or Add a List of Songs to paste a whole list. You can also import from Google Docs or scan a photo of a setlist. Songs that already exist in the library come with the charts and links other musicians have added. See Adding songs.

3. Build a setlist

Go to Setlists → New Setlist, give it a title and date, then drag songs from Band songs into Sets 1–4. Changes save automatically. See Creating setlists.

4. Play it

From the setlist page:

  • Music Stand: one chart per song with auto-scroll and transpose, for the gig
  • Practice: charts with a video or audio player, for learning
  • Rehearsal View: every chart and link for every song
  • More → Print: a paper copy

Every view has a Copy Link button, so subs can follow along without an account.

5. Invite your band

On the band page, open Members → Invite, enter an email and pick a role. See Members and permissions.

Then record the gig

Hit Record Audio on the setlist (or upload your own recording), split it into songs, and the whole band can listen back in the setlist player. See Recording sets.

Turn your best takes into an album

The setlist player gathers every take from every recording of the setlist into one playlist. Skip the false starts and train wrecks, drag the keepers into order, and you've got your best performances of the night.

Then click Turn this playlist into an album, confirm you have the rights, and click Create album. You get a draft album with those takes already attached. Add artwork, then publish it to your public band page. See Making an album from the player.

You can also build an album from scratch and pick each track's audio yourself, mixing takes from different setlists and recordings. See Making albums.

Tips

  • Fill in keys, tempos and durations. Durations add up into set lengths.
  • Pick your charts. Choose which chart shows on Music Stand for each song on its band song page.
  • Test before the gig. Open Music Stand on the tablet you'll use on stage.
  • Duplicate setlists for regular gigs instead of starting over.
