Your band

Members and permissions

Roles and what each can do, inviting people, past members, and leaving a band.

Everyone in your band has a role. The role decides what they can do, from running the whole band down to just reading charts at the gig. Manage it all from the Members panel in your band page's left sidebar.

Roles

Every band has one Principal, the person who created it or took over leadership. Everyone else gets one of five roles:

Role Good for
Principal The bandleader. Can do everything.
Core Bandmates who run things with you.
Member Bandmates who play and help with songs and recordings, but don't build setlists.
Manager Someone handling the business side: promotion, booking and gigs.
Crew A helper with photos, recordings and press kit media.
Sub A fill-in player who needs the charts and music, not the tools.

What each role can do

Principal: everything Core can do, plus remove people from the band, hand over leadership and delete the band. These powers belong to the Principal only.

Core: about everything in the band:

  • create, edit and finalize setlists
  • add and edit songs, charts and transpose settings
  • record, upload, split, trim, normalize and delete recordings
  • reorder and skip takes in the setlist player, and promote takes to song links
  • edit the band profile and press kit, and choose which members appear on the public page
  • social posts, fan email, gigs, venues and booking outreach
  • invite people and change their roles
  • see payment info

Member: sees everything (setlists, Music Stand, players, photos and the song list) and can:

  • add and edit songs and charts
  • record, upload and delete recordings
  • schedule gigs and add venues
  • upload setlist photos

Members can't create or edit setlists, split or trim recordings, run social, fan email or booking, or invite people.

Manager: sees everything and can:

  • edit the band profile and press kit
  • social posts, fan email, gigs, venues and booking outreach
  • invite people and change their roles
  • see payment info

Managers can't edit setlists or songs, or record or process recordings.

Crew: can open Music Stand, the players and setlist photos, and can:

  • upload setlist photos
  • upload recordings
  • help with press kit media

Crew can't edit setlists or songs, or invite people.

Sub: can open Music Stand, the players, setlist photos and the song list, and upload setlist photos. That's it, which is all a fill-in needs for the gig.

Not sure which role to give someone? Start with Member. You can change it any time.

Invite someone

You need the Principal, Core or Manager role.

  1. In the Members panel, click Invite.
  2. Enter their email address.
  3. Pick a role. The Can and Cannot lists show what that role gets.
  4. Add a message if you like, then click Send invite.

What happens next depends on whether they already have an account:

  • They have an account: they're added to the band straight away, and get an email letting them know.
  • They're new: they get an invite email with a link. They can create an account or sign in with Google using that email address, and they're in. The link lasts 7 days.

Ask them to check their spam or promotions folder if the email doesn't show up.

Pending invites

Invites that haven't been accepted yet are listed under Invite, with the role you picked. For each one you can:

  • Resend (): sends the email again and gives them another 7 days.
  • Cancel (): withdraws the invite. You can send a new one afterwards.

Once an invite expires it drops off the list, and you can invite that address again.

Change someone's role

You need the Principal, Core or Manager role. In the Members panel, click the person's role badge, then pick a new role from the Role menu. It saves straight away.

You can't change the Principal's role this way. Leadership changes hands only when the Principal leaves. See Hand over leadership.

Past members

When someone moves on, you can keep them on the band's history instead of removing them. Click their role badge and pick Past member from the Role menu, then confirm. This takes the Principal, Core or Manager role, and works on anyone except the Principal.

A past member:

  • loses all access to the band straight away, just like being removed,
  • is listed in a collapsed Past members group at the bottom of the Members panel,
  • appears under Past members in the members section of your public band page, with their instrument, unless they were hidden from the public page.

Anything they added stays with the band.

Next to each past member, Restore () brings them back as a Member. Remove () takes them off the list. If you invite a past member back, they move back to the current members automatically.

Show or hide members on your public page

Your public band page lists your members. To leave someone off, like a sub or your manager, click their role badge and turn off Show on public page. Hidden members get a Hidden label in the panel. They're still in the band; they just don't appear publicly.

This takes the Principal, Core or Manager role.

Email your bandmates

Click the envelope () next to someone's name to email them. To email everyone at once, click Email band and choose your mail app, Gmail or Outlook.

Remove someone

Only the Principal can remove people. Click the person's role badge, then Remove from band. Type their username to confirm.

They lose access to the band's setlists, songs and recordings straight away. Anything they added stays with the band. To keep them on the band's history instead, make them a past member.

Leave a band

Click your own role badge in the Members panel, then Leave band. You'll lose access to the band until someone invites you back.

Hand over leadership

If you're the Principal, you have to pick a new one before you leave. Click your role badge, then Leave band…, choose who takes over, and type your username to confirm. They become the Principal with full powers, and you're removed from the band.

If you're the only member, you can't hand it over. Delete band… is your only option, and that deletes the band and everything in it for good.
