The Recordings panel in your band page's left sidebar is your band's whole recording library in one place: every gig and rehearsal, every song take, every idea, plus anything recorded on this device that hasn't uploaded yet.
It's different from the Recordings and Photos panel on a setlist page, which only deals with that one setlist. That's where you record a set, open its player and upload files. See Recording a set.
Three kinds of recordings
| Kind | What it is | Where it comes from |
|---|---|---|
| Set recordings | A whole gig or rehearsal, tied to a setlist. You split it into a take for each song. | Recording or uploading on a setlist, or Record a Set |
| Song recordings | One take of one song, kept with that song. | Record This Song on a song, or saving an idea as a song |
| Ideas | Quick sketches, riffs and voice memos that aren't songs yet. | New Idea, or Record New Idea in Quick Record |
Takes you split out of a set recording stay with that set recording. They play in the setlist player and show on each song's page, but they aren't listed under Song recordings.
Everyone in the band can open all three lists. Recording takes the Principal, Core or Member role.
Pending on this device
When you stop a recording, it's saved in your browser first, then uploaded from the preview page. If the upload didn't happen (you lost signal at the venue, closed the tab, or chose to upload later), the recording is still waiting on this device.
Pending on this device lights up when anything from this band is waiting: set recordings, song recordings or ideas. Click it to open Pending Recordings, which lists each one, newest first, with what kind it is (Set, Song or Idea), its setlist, song or idea name, length, size and when it was recorded:
- Upload opens the preview page so you can listen and upload it. Do this on a good connection; long sets are big files.
- Discard deletes it from this device for good.
Things to know:
- Pending recordings live in this browser on this device only. Your bandmates can't see them, and you won't see them on another computer.
- Clearing your browser's data, or using a private window, can delete them. Upload as soon as you can.
- Each setlist, song or idea keeps one waiting recording. Record the same one again before uploading and the newer recording replaces the older one.
- Once a recording uploads, it's removed from this list automatically.
- When the button is greyed out, nothing from this band is waiting on this device.
View Set Recordings
Every set recording from every setlist, newest first. Each row shows:
- the recording's name, or the date and time it was recorded,
- Processed once it's been split, or Not split,
- the setlist it belongs to (click to open it),
- its length, file size, date and who recorded it,
- how many of its takes are in the player, like 8 of 10 in player. The rest were skipped.
Click a recording to open its page, where you can split it, fix takes, normalize the volume or delete it.
The side of the page has:
- Record a Set, which opens Quick Record so you can pick a setlist and start.
- Storage: how much of your band's space recordings and splits use. See Storage.
- From former members: recordings left behind by people who deleted their Band Plan account. The Principal can Adopt them to keep them; adopted recordings count toward the Principal's storage once the band is past its free space. Anything not adopted is removed after about six months, unless it's used on an album.
View Song Recordings
Every song recording, newest first, each with a player. On each card you can:
- rename the take with the pencil (),
- View Details to trim it, normalize it, or add it to the song's links,
- Download the file.
Only the original takes are listed here. Trimmed and normalized versions are on each take's details page. See Recording songs.
View all Idea recordings
Opens your band's Ideas, grouped into sessions by day. Name ideas, star your favorites, and when one turns into a real song, save it as a song: its recording moves over as that song's first song recording. See Ideas and sessions.

- Hummed a riff into your phone? It's in Ideas.
- Recording disappeared after a bad connection? Check Pending on this device on the same phone or computer you recorded on.
